When does height equal pressure? Well the simple answer is it doesn't, but more on that later. A less simple answer is that height based pressure unit standards for manometers have evolved significantly over time. This has left an interesting legacy that you need to be aware of if you calibrate pressure instruments using height based units.

If you measure or calibrate pressure in the real world, you are at risk for contamination. And contamination can cause problems that you don’t even want to think about. A manufacturer in the aerospace industry found that out when they used their air system to calibrate a gauge that had water in it, then used it to calibrate another device that was supposed to be “dry and air pure.”

Consider if your company would be best served by specifying traceability to the SI instead of to your local NMI.

Unlike dc /lf calibration where there are many dedicated calibrators, in RF and microwave there are virtually no specifically designed calibrators (apart from the Fluke 9640A Series RF Reference Sources)
