Hey, I’m Sean with Fluke. A question we often hear is: “Why do I need an insulation tester?”
The insulation tester is designed to:
- check the integrity of your conductor wires
- check the insulation value of motor or your compressor windings
You’re trying to see if there’s any break down that could potentially cause a fault. We always want to use an insulation tester and your Preventive Maintenance Plan (PMP). This would allow you to start doing streamline testing and baseline testing.
A recommended procedure when using an insulation tester would be to double the value of whatever you’re testing. What that means is if you have a motor to test that is 120 V, you would check it using 250 V.
