During the testing process, measured values are automatically compared to the predefined threshold levels producing a PASS, FAIL or WARN indication after each measurement. A maximum of 10 sets of thresholds can be stored and threshold indications are determined based on the following criterion:

VoltageResistance
> Voltage Lower< Voltage Lower< Reference> Reference and Reference x (1+Warning %)> Reference x (1+Fail)
PassFailPassWarningFail

Fluke BT510 key features:

  • Battery Voltage – During the internal resistance test, Fluke Battery Analyzers also measure the voltage of the battery under test
  • Discharge Volts – The Discharge mode collects the voltage of each battery multiple times at a user defined interval during a discharge or load test. Users can calculate the time a battery takes to drop to the cut-off voltage and use this time to determine the capacity loss of the battery
  • Ripple Voltage Test – Measures unwanted residual ac component of the rectified voltage in dc charging and inverter circuits. Allows users to test ac components in dc charging circuits and find one of the root causes of battery deterioration
  • Meter and Sequence Modes – The Meter mode is used for a quick test or troubleshooting. In this mode you can save and read the readings in a measurement or time sequence. The Sequence mode is for maintenance tasks with multiple power systems and battery strings. Before a task starts, users can configure a profile for the task for data management and report generation
  • Threshold and Warning – Users can configure a maximum of 10 sets of thresholds and receive a Pass/ Warning/ Fail indication after each measurement
  • Intercell Strap Resistance Test and Data Management – Measures the resistance of the intercell connection between batteries in a string.
  • AutoHold – When AutoHold is turned on, a reading is captured when it remains stable for 1 second. The reading is then released when a new measurement starts
  • AutoSave – When AutoSave is turned on, measured values are saved to internal memory automatically after an AutoHold reading is captured

When I create a profile for 40 batteries in the Fluke BT521, it shows 40 batteries in ohm and discharge modes. However, when I switch to other modes like VDC and ripple, only 20 batteries are displayed. Why doesn't the battery count match the profile ?

Use case for BT510. Can string resistance test be made or only individual cells. What is the maximum string or cell voltage at which resistance can be evaluated?

Asked by: simpletonBob

There are any standards that give information about the acceptance critera of the deviation on calibration? The limit, for example.

Asked by: André Merkle

We have multiple battery strings that have 2 and 3 straps per cell. Can the BT520 accommodate multiple strap measurements for each cell in the battery string or is it limited to 1 strap per cell?

Asked by: BattTester

Can this perform a resistance test on a lithium ion battery to give a pass/fail rating (that we would set) IE below 4.5W

Rated 2 out of 5 by from It works - software and firmware are lacking Device works - I mentioned a few issues with the products firmware and software and Fluke said they weren't improving the product/software any further. A typical multimeter will perform the same functions as this "Analyzer" Hello Joshua, I understand your perspective and the problem is we need to improve the software. At this time, we are choosing to invest in other projects. The product manager for the battery tester products is aware of the software short cummings. It's on the list but not sure the time for the improvements. xxx x. Technical Support Engineer 1-800-873-5853

Rated 1 out of 5 by from Meter Test Leads Test leads are so poor and unreliable, every set of leads give different readings and constantly giving OL. Every battery has to be triple checked and as a large company doing a lot of testing we have to keep buying new leads and Fluke have just stopped replying to our emails.

Rated 3 out of 5 by from BT521 in the Real World The BT521 is a high end battery tester. The Probes are interesting: the short pair of the advanced probes came broken, Fluke is warrantying them out. (But still....). The probes require calibration EACH TIME you switch a set. And calibration is challenging, to say the least. You need two people. And it takes time. And repeated attempts. The software: you CANNOT create templates without being connected to the instrument. ?!?! And I'm not sure what the Fluke Connect App really lets you do. It didn't seem to do anything. All in all: well made, intuitive to use, easy to use (except the calibration proceedure), and the data logging is a great way to capture readings. But it has a 'personality,' as mentioned above, that you need to get used to. But, I have to say, the same is true of my 190-504, my 435-ii, and my 1625-2. It seems as though as the instrument capability goes up, so does its price and quirks. That being said, I'd still rather own Fluke that anything else. If for no other reasons than Fluke's reliability, customer service, and the confidence it inspires in my clients, I'll keep them as my primary test tool.

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Needs work. I went with the Fluke bt521 for the reason of price and safety over other battery testers. I use this tester every 3 months when I test our 1200 batteries of our site.My biggest frustration with this tester is the probes, they are tethered together at the end of the probe. This gets to be very cumbersome when trying to reach into the back corner of a battery rack. Also only having straight probes does not work well in a lot of situations, they need to have angled probes for hard to get to areas. The temperature meter on the end of the negative probe is cool, but it gets in the way a lot, again when reaching into hard to get to areas.

Rated 4 out of 5 by from BT521 don't have temp display on the unit itself The BT521 could measure the negative pole temperature but could not be displayed on the unit itself. The only way to review the temp data is to download the data to the PC. This temp data should be able to review on the unit itself during the site testing. All current test probes are straight only. If Fluke could provide the angled tip, it would be best for tight environment since the workable space on top of the battery bank are quite limited in most of the environment. All accessories are not upgradable, i.e. BT510 could not be upgraded to BT520, and BT520 could not be upgraded to BT521. However the time of purchasing this sort of instrument may not have adequate budget to purchase the top of the series model. If it is upgradable, it will be fine for the starter since most of the accessories could be an optional item. I'm not sure whether this BT5xx will be compatible with the Fluke Connect in the future. The BT521 is already equipped with Bluetooth connectivity to iOS devices. I hope it will be supported by Fluke Connect in coming soon such that my Fluke Connect ready equipment could be managed together under a single platform.
